This is one of the things I love about summer break. When Tess wants to immerse herself in a project, she can jump in with both feet and just go. Here’s how she spent half the day today — crafting food for her American Girl dolls. Even with some guidance from an American Girl book, she blew me away. May her creativity always be fierce.

That sushi started as mini spools. The corn is made from rows of beads. The ketchup is paint. The potato chips are tissue paper. Notice the foil-wrapped baked potatoes behind the corn.

Yarn spaghetti, topped with paint sauce and foam herbs

That’s pizza, croissants, tacos and a salad plate (with some mini birthday presents thrown in for good measure).

The whole amazing spread
