Hitting the road, heading south
Last summer, we drove 1,250 miles through six states over eight days, and I microblogged the trip, posting daily Facebook updates with tips and observations about eating well on the road. (I then compiled all those FB updates in this post.) As I wrote before we left, we had no idea where we were going (road-tripping old school!), but I was determined to prove that you can eat well on the road no matter what. And yes, still have fun!
Turns out I had plenty to work with, so I’m doing it again this year. Despite that stack of books in the picture, we’re mostly winging this trip, too. Our only set destination is Universal Orlando’s Wizarding World of Harry Potter (for the 9-year-old Harry Potter fan). Otherwise we’re pointing the car south (from Rochester, NY), then eventually meandering our way back north. We figure we’ll go about 3,000 miles over 17 days (starting today).
See you on the road!
For more about eating well on the go, see these posts about bringing food when you travel and navigating hotels, restaurants and stores along the way.

Christina — please this year “kiss and tell?” Post the names of those restaurants and bakerys where you successfully find real food. I keep a database of places we want to try when we travel; it’s fun to try out someone else’s picks.
Dreena: I’ve actually already started doing that! 🙂
