As if things weren’t exciting enough around here, what with Spoonfed’s six-month anniversary and the nearly 1,000 pageviews for 11-year-old Birke Baehr’s inspiring video. (Oh, and some spirited commenting on the state fair post.)

Now I learn that Jamie Oliver has named Spoonfed one of his blogs of the month. Well, OK, maybe it wasn’t JO himself. But, you know, it’s his newsletter. And his Food Revolution. And they did say that Jamie would be sending me a certificate. So there you go.

(OK, turns out that Jamie was involved. See below.)

Really, though, cool stuff, right?

Now, speaking of cool stuff, we have our first Spoonfed giveaway winners! Becca (commenter No. 4) won the New Jammies gift set. And John (commenter No. 42) won the young readers edition of Michael Pollan’s “The Omnivore’s Dilemma.” Congrats to both!

Thanks so much to Nicole from New Jammies and to everyone who entered. You gave such sincere and thoughtful responses to the question: Why is it important to teach kids to think critically about food?

Because food is fundamental, but sadly distorted by money, marketing, politics and poor judgment. Because understanding where food comes from and how it affects their bodies will equip kids for a lifetime of smart decisions. Because, as Adrienne wrote, “it’s a very empowering thing for a child to know that they can make a positive difference in this world and that their voices are heard.”

Here’s to raising voices and raising hell. Can’t wait to see what’s ahead.

Update on Oct. 1: So a reader named Colm just alerted me to the fact that JO himself apparently does know who I am. In fact, he’s talking about me in his video newsletter today. I’m not usually one to get all starstruck or goofy or anything, but, well, this is all kinds of awesome.

About Spoonfed, he says: “It’s brilliant. We love it. We follow you. I suggest you guys follow her as well. She’s brilliant. Keep doing what you’re doing, girl.” Yes, he really said that. It’s right here, at the 2:50 mark.
